Hi Angelz! It’s another Sinday and I’m über-excited to share these recs with all of you! They’ve truly been pwning me over the last couple of weeks. Each of them succeeded in making my heart ache in such a very good way. And I have to admit, although I’m a total sap, I don’t often cry when reading fic. But let me tell ya, more than one of these stories had me teary-eyed… *sniff* Let’s jump right in!
This story? Lovely.
A Thousand Leaves by BellaSunshine is my Completed Spotlight fic, and boy am I glad I waited to read this one until it was complete! Although I would have loved to have gotten on-board early with this story, being able to read it straight through was a good choice for me. The angst and mystery probs woulda killed me ded. Just sayin’. 
Recently completed in early June, this story’s opening chapter completely pulled me in. It’s a very long introductory chapter, and it single-handedly tells the story of how Bella and the Cullen family first met. It lays the foundation for the entire story beautifully. You all know I’m a huge fan of stories written in third person; BellaSunshine nails this technique in this fic. She brilliantly conveys each character’s perspective and weaves them together seamlessly.
As I mentioned in the opening of this post, it’s rare that a fic makes me cry, and if I do get teary-eyed, rarely am I to the point of sobbing. One particular chapter was so frickin’ beautiful in its revelations and dialogue that I found myself blabbering big, sloppy tears. My heart felt all big and puffy. *sigh* If you haven’t read this fic, do yourself a favor and check it out. Not only is it a gripping, interesting story with a good amount of mystery, it’s got fantastic characterizations and it’s exceptionally written.
Summary: Isabella Swan grew up as the best friend of Alice Cullen, younger sister of Edward Cullen, who was never nice to Bella despite her being an “honorary Cullen.” Everything changes when Edward is sent to prison for the murder of Bella’s mother. AU-Human

Have you heard of Lust on a Deathbed by dyedinwool? No? Well, you’re in for a treat! This story is crazy cool. The concept behind it is different than anything else I’ve read. Additionally, it’s a real treat to read a vampfic with this kind of sensitivity and approach. In this story, Bella’s in a lot of emotional pain when she finds herself in a mental institution. Edward’s a physician working there, immediately entranced by the luscious bouquet that is Bella’s blood. But when he finds her mind silent, he’s intrigued. As he gets to know her, he find her fascinating. But Bella’s health is quickly fading. Will she meet her end in the institution? Will Edward help her end her misery once and for all? Will Bella accept Edward’s reality?
This fic already has over 40 completed, short chapters. It’s an easy read that will have you salivating for the next chapter. And for those of you, like me, who adore EPOV, you’re in for a treat – this story is completely EPOV. Definitely give it a go – I’m loving it!
Summary: Bella Swan is committed to a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt. A resident doctor is quietly assisting the suicidal population find their end. With her disturbing past and a doomed future, will Edward extend the favor once more? AU
Lastly, I’m really excited to share my rec for a new WIP by littlesecret84 called once and future lovers. I’m a big fan of littlesecret’s writing, as I’ve rec’d some of her other work (Brown Study, On Grey Mornings). This story appears to be just as gripping as her others. There’s something truly magical about her writing style; there’s an immediate intimacy that’s hard to explain…a vulnerability that makes the characters – especially Bella – so easy to relate to.
A few weeks ago, I saw on Twitter that littlesecret heard Adele’s “Someone Like You” and couldn’t stop crying. I tweeted her a reply agreeing about the song’s absolute stunning, heartbreaking quality. She agreed and said a reader mentioned it to her, as it reminded the reader of once and future lovers….so, yeah. *crying* That pretty much sums it up. *deep breaths* The fic is beautiful and heartbreaking so far and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

Adele – Someone Like You (live from her home)
Summary: He told me once that he preferred brunettes, but his fingers were always playing with long, blonde strands. He could never make up his mind… until he did. And now that I’m back I don’t think he deserves a second chance.

This is a long story, I lost my internet connection for about 24 hours one day last week *damn.remodel*…no ff, no RAoR, no tumblr, no email & I couldn’t find my charger for my Kindle which had no juice left… *smitten.almost.panics.at.this.point* so I was down to what I had saved in pdf form as far as my choice on what to read to satisfy my ff addiction & let me just say IT IS an addiction…anyway, I happen to have Emancipation Proclamation saved, tucked away for a rainy day I guess… *it.never.rains.here.so.i’m.not.sure.why.i’m.saving.it* Anyway, again…so I start poking around the story like I’m afraid of it, sorta like I was about ‘The Blessing and The Curse’ *oh.god.how.i.LOVE.that.story.now* and still am about ‘The Red Line’ *smitten.hides…still.have.not.read.that.one*

You know love I read it and freaking loved it and I skipped Raven’s chapter cause I am not a masochist and I still loved the story…it is heart wrenching but damn he is one sexy beast in that story…i still haven’t read the sequel cause I am waiting for it to finish first….

I read today that ROAR is at its end…I have come to rely on this blog to find the best fanfiction…there are thousands out there but i am interested in finding the ones that are most like those regularly promoted/suggested at ROAR (great plots…angst to humor…M or NC17…human or vampire…)

Hey Dee. I absolutely love A Thousand Leaves, and have rec’d it here before. It really deserves to be in the spotlight as it is such a good story. I’ve not heard of the other two stories, but am glad as I have been looking for something new to read so I will get started on these immediately.
This week I read a brilliant WIP called Bright Like the Sun by dryler, the only problem being it hasn’t updated since January. So as much as I would love to know what happens next I am not sure I will find out. I see why some people prefer completed fics only but I seem to have some strange aversion to them. I think I like the suspense of WIP’s and because I read so many at one time I always have update alerts.
Hey Seagull, I do the same thing with WIPs – I love the suspense, but I agree, it is very frustrating when a story doesn’t get updated, I always make sure that they have updated recently.. I don’t know how many times I have been sucked in by a story, and started reading and the damn thing hasn’t updated in months!!
Hi ladies! Thank you for the great recs, DD. I started reading “A Thousand Leaves” a long time ago, when it was still a WIP. For some reason, it got lost in the long list while I was waiting for updates and I never continued reading it. I’ll definitely go back to it now and read the whole thing.

This week I read a new story that I came across “The Feeder”. It reminded me of “Hide and Drink” and that’s always a good thing. It’s not as heavy on the angst, though, so this is a lighter read.

Also, I’m currently reading your rec from last Sinday, DD, “Fridays at Noon” and I’m loving it! It is totally not what I expected it to be (I somehow thought it would be a light, funny read), but this is so much better! Edward really has a shitload of issues and kudos to Bella for putting up with everything he throws at her.
Like probably everyone else here, I’m also totally owned by “In Your World”. And I wish “Edroar the Angry Lion” would update…

1. I am completely taken with the two stories I am recommending today. Both are WIP’s but well along so if WIPs are not your thing you should story alert them. Both are at 20 plus chapters. I read a ridiculous amount of fanfic and as a result it is not always easy to find ones that offer a new and original take on the oft told story of E&B. These two IMO fit that bill quite nicely:
Forever is a Promise You Keep from shelikesthesound – Rated: M Summary: Bella loves Edward, much more than she should. Edward is an addict,and Bella deals with it. Years of this cycle begin to take its toll, and Bella is fed up. A near fatal accident forces Edward into a coma while Bella re-examines her previous decision.

All the canon characters are there, but each has a persona that is different from the ones we have come to love. The story is a WIP and about 20 chapters in now and things are starting to come together. Based loosely on the author’s personal experience, which give it a sense of realism it is well worth the read.

A Thousand Leaves was on my WIP list for a really long time. I was just waiting for it to be completed. What I’m reading right now, just isn’t holding my attention, so I’m going to drop it and start this one right away. Sometimes you need a good cry.
The other two stories sound equally amazing, so I am adding those to my list also. Lust on a Deathbed so sounds like an AU story that I would love. I recently read In Vain by Bratty vamp, and was crazy about that Edward so much.
The highlight of my week, was the Breaking News update. I so love WriteonTime’s writing, and was happy to catch up with those characters. I know you introduced me to her writing when you recd. The Port Angleles Players. Thanks for that!!!

Oh DD, these recs sound great. I’ve had A Thousand Leaves bookmarked for a while and have just put it on my Kindle, so will be starting that one next. I’m such an angst-h00r, so all these sound great. I don’t often cry over fanfic, although I did get a lump in my throat over parts of A Quiet Fire. However, I’m not ashamed to say that I was literally sobbing so much over the fic I finished last night that I could barely read the last couple of chapters through the blur of tears I couldn’t hold back. It’s a fic I’ve had bookmarked for nearly a year, but was always a little put off by the description of it being a “melange of Twilight and How To Be”, because much as I enjoyed the movie of HTB, I do like my Edwards to be hot. But my god, “Awake in the Infinite Cold” destroyed me. Extraordinarily beautiful and lyrical writing and a story to break your heart. Not, I fear, for the wusspervs, but one which will stay with me for a long time.

Someone here said a while ago that this fic doesn’t have a HEA, so I was seriously considering to delete it from my Kindle, as I have a hard time reading stories like that (Toye left me devastated). After reading your review, I’m now really torn on what to do…sounds like it might still be worth it.

Uhhh errr Awake in the Infinite Cold IS A HARD READ! But yes it is a good story….just like Letters to Isabella between the two I was sobbing like a baby but they were so well written and it is sad that sad stories are ignored because they are not happily ever afters…
I would say that AITIC is the saddest story I have read and there are times I want to go back but I just freaking can’t….I actually went out and got the book to read the story she based it from….it wasn’t the same hers was far better!

RHM makes a great point, and I agree that you miss out on some wonderful stories by ignoring those without a HEA. As far as I’m concerned, if it fits the story and the plot then I’d rather have a sad or tragic ending rather than a contrived HEA.

Fluffy, This wussperv read that story and I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much over a fan fic EVER. That story ripped my heart out and jumped up and down on it. And the musical aspect of it and him….well…..onward, just broke my heart. SOB. That one is NOT for the faint of heart. DEFINITELY NOT. But it is truly beautifully written. I flat out LOVE ff!!! Just LOVE it…the writers, the plots, canon or no. These stories have become such a BIG part of my life over the past few years BUT one thing that I have learned the HARD way is that I am a wuss and when a story bends or breaks I break with it and the funk stays with me longer then I care to remember… so for me it’s better to stay away.
That being said I LOVE YOU ladies so much; with your big hearts and open arms

I love love love angst…but I can’t read that story. After I checked out Flowers for Algernon, I knew I couldn’t do it. I just can’t…..like someone said Toye ripped my heart out….I’m afraid this one would kill me DED.
Toye doesn’t even come close to Awake in the infinite cold…..
Toye is a great story don’t get me wrong I loved the story…but let me give just an example of AITIC
Excerpt from Awake in the Infinite Cold…..
Jasper scraped together what was left of Edward’s money, supplementing it with his own stash. He bought a brand-spankin’ new keyboard from one of his buddies, the closest approximation of a real piano that money could buy—88 keys that accurately simulated both the sound of a hammer against a spring and the weight needed to push the hammer. He bought an amplifier that would broadcast Edward’s music at the highest limit allowed by Seattle street law. He wrestled the new equipment down to the parking garage.
Then he let Edward loose and stood back.
As Edward approached the instrument, his whole body seemed to vibrate, a greyhound awaiting the command to start a race.
“Is this…?” he asked, not taking his wide eyes away from the keyboard for a moment, as though it might disappear if he blinked.
“It’s yours.”
Edward’s eyes were as round as two green fruit loops. “I should pay you.”
With a dismissive wave, Jasper said, “You already did. This is covered in the cost of your lessons.”
Edward tore his dazzled gaze away from the keyboard with effort and nodded his head once at Jasper in heartfelt thanks.
Then he was lost in acquainting himself with the instrument. Jasper watched in fascination as Edward traced a finger across the dashboard until he found the power switch. He watched as Edward sat down on his little stool as properly as if he were wearing a tuxedo with coattails.
While Edward arranged his limbs, Jasper peered slyly at his family, who were digging deeper into their boxes as if the flimsy cardboard could barricade them against an anticipated hurricane. He smiled smugly to himself at the thought that the sound waves they would hear would be anything but disruptive.
For when Edward started playing, it was no hurricane of sound. It was a fresh breeze rippling through a hanging garden of clean, sun-soaked laundry. It was the pitter patter of rain on a tin roof on a warm day in Brazil. It was a home far away and long ago full of life and love and laughter.
Edward warmed up by carefully caressing every key, gathering them together like baby chicks so that none of them would feel left out. He showered them all with finger kisses and coaxed out their absolute best.
As he warmed up, he also warmed Jasper’s family up. Their clenched bodies relaxed, arms melting from vice grips around torsos, heads craning to verify that Jasper hadn’t tricked them with the old switcheroo—sitting down to play in Edward’s stead.
But it didn’t sound like Jasper.
They gophered up from their boxes and saw that it was, indeed, Edward. Even Old Betty, who was bone-weary from pushing her recycling cart every day, sat up and threw sleep off like a potato sack.
Jasper watched quietly until Edward had had enough private time with his keyboard. Then he drew up his stool in front of his more careworn instrument, which looked like a ratty old boot next to a shiny loafer. But it had aged like a fine wine and would still be able to show this young whippersnapper a thing or two.
Jasper played discord for a moment to get Edward’s attention. When he cringed and looked over, Jasper said, “Let’s play a game.”
Edward smiled. Games and music were two of his favorite things in the world.
They started by playing a musical version of Marco Polo. Jasper would play, and Edward would echo. They played tag, Jasper chasing Edward up and down the keys, forcing Edward to improvise or be caught. They played Follow the Leader, and Edward stayed right on Jasper’s heels.
Jasper showed Edward how to fade into the background by playing in the lower octaves. He showed him how to complement by playing high. He showed him how to dominate in his own solo, twirling and dipping.
When they were through, Edward was giggling breathlessly, bouncing in his seat and begging for more. But Jasper needed him fresh.
There are some authors out there that have a way with words….I wished I had this talent…it’s beautiful and it truly does deserve the read…after all… what is a little angst when you are blessed with words spun in gold like this?

Wow, I’m speechless. That’s some amazing talent for using words. This only hardened my resolve in definitely reading this one. I can see where this fic would be capable of ripping your heart out, but I don’t want to miss out on this kind of writing. Thanks for the excerpt, RHM!
*gulps* O.K…….I finally loaded AITIC to my Kindle and after I finish Pound of Flesh and Emancipation Proclamation, I may give it a try. FluffyLiz….I trust your taste completely but will you just be there for moral support and help me get through it? I can deal with angst as long as there is a HEA, but this one sounds like it’s gonna rip my poor old hoor heart right out of my chest. Should I arrange for therapy sessions??
Come talk to me when you need to…I will be happy to cry right along with you….This story is seriously epic and the fandom should recognize this Edward because he steals your heart and when he suffers you suffer…so bring it on I would be happy to hold a hand….

Question about your comment about ATL:
I haven’t read it yet, and I’m still a little hesitant even though I’ve seen it recommended many times over. The summary leaves me a little weary because while I can handle some angst, I cannot handle crazy, ridiculously unbelievable angsty plots. Do you mind expanding on your issue with liking the first part and not liking the second?

The Eternal Ones: What if Love Never Dies by Kirsten Miller is about love at first sight, soul mates and past/future lives. It’s a wonderful story that has twists and turns up until the very last minute. I also recognize the characteristics of several characters including Edward, Bella, Jake, Alice, Mike/Tyler/Eric, Jessica/Lauren, Jane and Aro.
I guess it’s a little unnerving that mentally I can’t even give up these characters long enough to enjoy a completely different set of characters…..instead I have to pigeon hole the new characters into the slots created by SM and all the great fanfic writers. Oh, well, I guess I’ll just stick to ffn.

I read last week’s rec, Fridays at Noon and really enjoyed it.
I also started Offside and am LOVING it! This Edward reminds me of a combination of 2 of my favorite Edwards: Iceward from Coincidental Major/Major Misconduct and Scotchward from Scotch, Gin and the New Girl. Soccerward isn’t quite the prick that Scotchward is, but he isn’t nearly as sweet as Iceward. (Although he might get there in the end.)

As always, Amishward and In Your World are owning me. I’ve been hitting refresh on my email waiting for her Sunday update. I actually read last week’s update 3 times! I never do that. There’s always so much more to read, I just move on to the next update or story. But I keep going back to this one. I drove through Amish country this weekend and couldn’t figure out why I was so antsy about the drive. Then it hit me! I might see Amishward! Sadly, I didn’t. Did, however, see an old Amish couple hitching their buggy outside a Mexican restaurant.

Sorry I don’t have anything new to recommend this week. I’ve been reading a completed story for the past few days that is really sweet. The UST and the lemons are making me want to hump the furniture! But the author doesn’t have a Beta and there are so many spelling and grammar errors. They are too distracting to me. I’m about 15 chapters in, and I’ve just got to walk away. I HATE when that happens!
Everyone has been commenting on angst-filled stories today. Awake In The Infinite Cold is right up at the maximum end of the angst scale. I cried my eyes out, but I loved it! It’s a very powerful thing when someone can write a story that moves you so much. I have so much respect and admiration for the girls who write these stories. I wish I had talent like that.
Another angst-y [is that a word?] story I’ve heard so much about is Poughkeepsie. By the time I became aware of this story, it had been taken down. Does anyone know the status of this story? Will Mrs. The King get it published under another name or anything? I’ve heard so many nice comments about it. I would really like to read it some day.

I just finished up a story (think there’s still one chap and/or an epi left) that I really thought was a cool twist on AU. Bella is a witch and Edwards and vamp. It’s written by Bexi24 and is very well written, mysterious, and has you itching to hit the next chapter button. Somehow, It only has under 400 reviews!!

I especially Love love love Alice in this and I love the twist Bexi gives her character. Chapters aren’t super long so it’s a fairly quick read. It took me 3 nights… But I also have 3 ankle biters and grown man-child to take care of. Sigh… Responsibility.
My first post here was to rec A May to December Romance. I stand by that rec whole heartidly! Such a good story. I never thought I’d love Sugar Daddy Edward
But oh how I do. He’s so sweet and patient with Bella, who doesn’t really know what to do with love or affection of any kind. Charlie was a horrible father and you want to strangle Renee from the get go. But slowly Edward is trying to build Bella back up and show her that she’s worth loving. This Bella may only be 19, but she’s mature and wise beyond her years. I drop everything when this updates.

Another I started recently is really good. It took me about 4 chapters to really get into it though. Mainly because it’s flips between 3 different time frames. But once you get into a few chapters you understand why it’s necessary. I think the description does no justice at all. Basiclly its about older rock star Edward, Bella loving his music, and them eventually meeting and building an unlikely kinship. There’s some mystery involved because in the beginning, bellas telling the story of how they met to her daughter. But where’s Edward now? Is this his daughter too? A lot of questions as Bella flashes back and forth. Mine is Prob not the best description either but give it a shot. It’s definetly got the angst factor as when Bellas a teen, her life is rough with Charlie being a drunk and Renee constantly disappearing.
